The permissive modify request control (which isn’t a standard control, having originated in Active Directory, but is supported in a few types of directory servers) may be included in a modify request to indicate that the server should relax a couple of constraints that it would normally enforce for modifications. In particular, it indicates that the server should not reject an attempt to add values to an attribute when one or more of those values already exist, and that it should not reject an attempt to remove values from an attribute when one or more of those values does not exist. The control has an OID of 1.2.840.113556.1.4.1413, and it does not take a value.

The following sample shows the JSON encoding for the control:

{
    "oid": "1.2.840.113556.1.4.1413",
    "control-name": "Permissive Modify Request Control",
    "criticality": false
}
